Last week my girlfriend was sick, so I had to take care of her.  Then I think I caught the same cold she had, so I’ve been…less than 100%.  However, here are some things I’ve been working on.  A lot of this is what you might call bottom-up design; in other words,

RosePath: Input boxes and the ability to interpolate variable values into text.

RosePath: A small Perl program to help with some text conversion.

AD3: Timeline and framework.

AD3: Loading and saving games.

December Reopening

So, in this blog I’m going to be talking about some of the work I do for Aching Dreams 3.  A lot of what I’ve been doing so far is going back and rethinking the original programming for AD1.  Not only have I learned a lot, but ActionScript itself has changed a lot since then.  If I were doing AD1 today, I’d do it a lot differently (but then, I had to do AD1 to get experience with ActionScript so now I know what I’m doing!).

I’ve been working on something I call “RosePath” that will make it much easier to program the story bits and “cutscenes”.  Most recently I learned about preloaders, so I can make my own customized preloader that waits for the right things to load.

Not just the programming, but the game mechanics for AD1 and 2 need to be reevaluated.  I need to talk to Hentaicook about that a bit more.  (I recently read this article talking about how successful teams make use of argument and debate to find the best solutions…)
